3 Day Rwenzori Mountain Trek

3 Day Rwenzori Mountain Trek

The 3 Days Mount Rwenzori Nature Walk To John Maate Camp  will give you a dreamlike experience. It takes you to the mossy heather zone above 3,500 metres asl. A reason the UNESCO calls the Rwenzori Mountains “Africa’s botanical big game”.

John Maate camp is one of the camps with the best views of the Stanley plateau glacier on Mount Stanley. After walking through a boggy section, relaxing in this camp is very rewarding. Enjoy cloudlike fog as it moves fast across the valley either side of the camp. Situated across the hill at the edge of the valley before crossing Bujuku river to the lower bigo bog. Before dinner or early morning for those stopping here, you can cross Bujuku river to the bigo bog before returning.

Day 1: NYAKALENGIJA (1615m asl.) – NYABITABA CAMP (2651m asl.)

The 3 Days Mount Rwenzori Nature Walk To John Maate hut follows the Rwenzori Central circuit trail and starts at the Rwenzori Mountains National park Mihunga gate. After an early morning breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you from your hotel around Fort portal or kasese to Rwenzori park gate. Receive briefing from the park wardens and induction for the trip while meeting your guides and porters.

Thereafter embark on your trip into the park taking the trail which follows a thick forest along the Mubuku River, crossing its Mahoma River tributary before starting a long, steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba Camp. During this part of the trip you may hear calls or sport chimpanzees and see black and white colobus, blue monkeys and the brilliantly colored Rwenzori turaco.
